Aces System - tourney system of individuals - Berlin 2011 This system I created in last minute as improvement to need no calculating and paper management. Lets call it ACEs-System. Was in principle used for Berlin 2011 sunday tourney. SKAcz (document version 20110626.001) Here list of goals : 1. to have most strongest players in tourney 2. to determine with solid validity the winner 3. to see most interresting games among strongest players (and minimalize forcing much stronger players partner much weaker) 4. to test new alternative time control and get some experience from it 5. system has to allow play as much games as possible without losing many time by organization and moving places, so simplicity preffered 6. tourney has to be long about 3-4hours 7. to motivate players make as strong teams for saturday tourney as possible and also based on assumption, that peoples do it. Time control: (select one from this) 10s +2s bronstein, 1min +1s bronstein, 1min + 1s inc Description : 1. bronstein 2s for move with 10s reserve (time used over 2s will be taken from reserve) advantage : still very fast, but everybody is able make move in 2s, much less (10s only) sitting than in 3min per game and always win better position 2. bronstein 1s + 1minute reserve (minimal bronstein influence, but removes hand races (to try make (pre)move on opponent time meanwhile opp moving hand from clocks to board), a bit decreased flagging (often is possible to move in 1s but not always) 3. 1 minute + 1s inc (hand races still in game, but decreased flagging in last seconds - few fast moves near clocks and then time accumulated can be used for win on position) Linus finally selected this interresting time control for tournament played 26.6 2011 from about 12 to 15 hours: 4. bronstein 2s for move with 2minute reserve (time used over 2s will be taken from reserve) advantage : everybody is able make move in 2s, sitting and teamworking like in 3 0 possible, always win better position Tournament System: 1. Get order number of players : every player will get order number based on previous saturday team tourney, players of team who won get numbers 1-2, second 3-4, etc. Randomly is determined who from team get higher number and who lower. If in tourney wish play somebody who didnt played saturday the chief of tourney can determine his order, but is recommended not change the order of top 16 players without some agreement about it. Recommended is use order from previous year tourney plus one or three for example. 2. Tables, places for playing will be signed from 1 to N (N = number of participants divided 4) where 1 is best table, where sits players with order 1-4. On seconds table sits players with orders 5-8, etc. ... "Lower table" is called table with number of table minus one. "Higher table" is called table with number of table plus one. 3. We need set of poker cards (for maximum 64 players). On every table between boars will be small cards set. On first table will be all aces and jokers. On every other table will be atleast 6 cards. 1.table Hearts 8-K (8,9,10,J,Q,K). 2.table Diamonds 8-K. 3.table Spades 8-K. 4.table Clubs 8-K. 5.table Hearts 2-7. 6.table Diamonds 2-7. 7.table Spades 2-7. 8.table Clubs 2-7. For comparing cards purposes: 1. value of card, 2. symbol in order Hearts,Diamonds,Spades,Clubs is counted. Joker is counted as highest card always. 4. Every round is played 3 games on every table. After every round partner is changed. Here is more ways, important is nobody play same color and same opponent every game. So for example if we have players A,B,C,D lets play game 1: A+B vs C+D (means A (partnering B) with white pieces on first board plays against C with black pieces (who partnering D)) game 2: C+A vs B+D game 3: A+D vs B+C 5. After every round who made most points randomly gets card (randomly means: player who won last game and had black pieces shuffle cards deck, another will determine who draw card first, then everybody in the course of clocks grab card from top of deck) 6. Determining who leave table down (going to lower table, where will play next round): If here is only one player without card in hand, he leaving table. If more players have no card in hand they randomly borrow (after solving situation cards are returned back to deck) cards from deck and lowest card determine who leaving table. If every player has some cards in hand, then player who have 1.fewest cards 2.lowest card in hand leaving table, the other players has to return one card into card deck (on table where took it). 7. Determining who leave table up (going to higher table, where will play next round): Who has 1.most cards in hand 2. highest card returning all cards into deck he took it from and leaving table. 8. Be aware: player always keeps cards he got in hand until he is in situation when system saying he has to return card into deck. First table is special exception, here keeps card player in hand only if he was only one who got card in round (ie that player made most points in round along). For example if results on table 2 of round 1 is PlayerA 0 points, PlayerB,PlayerC,PlayerD 2 points, and players got cards 8d,9d,10d then PlayerD returning card 10d into deck and other two players PlayerB,PlayerC keeping cards for next round in hand. But same result (2,2,2,0) on first table (in any round) means 3 players borrow cards, then is determined who leaving table down, and then players returning cards they got in actual round (sure cards they got in past thanks to winning along can keep if didnt returned it in resolving who leave down procedure). Last lowest table is also special, here is determined who will leave table, but it serve only for purpose to determine who cannot go up. If here is 4K+1 players, last table is pause table (who has pause, next round going always 1 table up and playing), if 4K+2 or 4K+3 can be played simul bughouse or solved any other way (director's choice). 9. After some solid number of rounds (like 7-10 atleast) the finale is played. Number of rounds should be determined by tourney director before round 6. 10. Finale A: top 5 players partnering each other and playing each other, what means total 15 games at all. Same way can be played finale B etc. Alternatively can be played only 4 players finale. But 5 players finale is recommended to decrease random influences.
